Instead of suffering from Chrome’s RAM and battery consumption, you can give these top Google Chrome alternatives a try. I’ve been a long-time Google Chrome user, but I had to leave the browser because of resource hungry nature.

Here are the best Google Chrome alternatives you can try:

List of the best Google Chrome alternatives

1. Microsoft Edge

After years of Internet Explorer’s ‘web suffering,’ the Microsoft team worked on another project and came up with a browser that was way better than the previous internet browsing king. They named it, Microsoft Edge. The internet explorer can still be found on Windows devices but it’s no longer supported by Microsoft. The new Edge was completely redesigned and came with a new engine, also supported extensions from Microsoft store, which didn’t catch the attention of extension developers as well as from the users.

Microsoft then ditched the legacy Edge browser in favor of the all-new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge. The company also revealed a new logo for the browser and is not one of the best Chrome alternatives you can use. It comes with Chrome extension support from the Chrome web store and has many other unique features that you can try. You can import bookmarks, history, passwords, and other data from any other browser. Also read, how to enable edge bar in Microsoft Edge browser.

Available on: Windows, Android, iOS, macOS (Intel and M1 Silicon)

2. Firefox

Firefox browser is one of the best alternative for Google Chrome. It comes with extension support, and you can also install Chrome extensions on Firefox browser. In terms of speed and privacy, Firefox is your go-to browser. With tracking protection, Firefox’s extensions, account information sync, and more features for developers. For web developers, Firefox is a go-to browser because of its competitive dev features.

With the release of Firefox Quantum Browser, it is easier to suggest a Chrome alternative that is as speedy as Google’s browser. Private browsing also gets better with the new Quantum browser update as it deletes all your data after the end of the session. The browser update also brings tracking protection from different online trackers to prevent tracking across platforms, especially from social media websites like Facebook.

Available on: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

3. Brave Browser

Brave browser is another chromium-based interesting browser that you should check out. There has been an incident where security researchers caught Brave browser inserting affiliate links in the user’s browsing experience, which was later explained by Brave browser. It’s up to you, if you find Brave browser trustworthy, you can start using it today. I found it very fast and a great Google Chrome replacement, hence, I have been using it for a while now.

It supports Chrome extensions and comes with DuckDuckGo support, Tor browsing experience in Incognito, and other features. You might want to turn off some features like Brave affiliate and Crypto wallet that it offers by default. You can customize the start page accordingly. Also read, how to change the default search engine in Brave Browser.

Available on: Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux.

4. Opera Browser

Opera is another worthy Google Chrome alternative. It comes with a built in battery manager and supports low power mode. You can also install Google Chrome extension on Opera.

Opera Browser is light, comes with dark mode, a built-in free VPN, and other useful features. With features like VR player, Snapshot tool, Download manager, image loading settings, mouse gestures, pop-up blocking, extension from Opera store, and Opera Turbo, the browser comes with more features than Chrome browser. Opera browser is available for Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS.

Available on: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

5. Safari

Safari is only for those who are on Mac. If you are using a MacBook, an iMac or any device running iOS, iPadOS, or macOS, Safari is your default browser. If you want to experience Apple’s stock browsing, you should stick with Safari. However, we would recommend using another alternative if you are looking for extensions and extra tools.

Safari is the default for macOS and iOS users. Apple’s browser has been around for a long time but is still unable to compete with the likes of Google Chrome. Safari is a simple browser with basic features to offer. Other than its simplicity, it doesn’t have anything special that could compel users to try it out. However, Apple users prefer using it on macOS and iOS. With macOS Big Sur 11.0, Safari gets new features. So, if you’re looking for a web browser for just mere browsing, Safari is your choice. Available on: macOS, iOS

6. Vivaldi

Vivaldi is a Chromium-based browser with features more than Google Chrome. The browser has been around for five years now and is available for Windows, macOS, and Android. With nearly 1.2 million monthly active users, Vivaldi is delivering speed and features on Chromium technology. Here are the features of the Vivaldi browser that you should try:

  • Notes: Save your thoughts
  • Quick Commands
  • Visual Bookmarks and Speed Dial
  • Web Panels
  • Manage Sessions Manually
  • Visual Tab Previews
  • Tab Stacks
  • Trash Can: Quickly Restore Pages
  • Adaptive Interface

Available on: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

7. Tor Browser

Tor Browser is the most privacy-focused browser that you can get on the internet. If privacy is everything for you, Tor Browser is your go-to browser. With Tor Browser, you can surf the internet anonymously. No one can track your data with this browser, and this is possible due to Tor’s network of relays for communication around the globe.

Available on: Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

So, which one is your favorite from all these Google Chrome alternatives out of all these? Mine is Microsoft Edge. Let me know in the comments.
