Online hiring is common these days. Living in the digital age has allowed hiring professionals to post job adverts, receive applications, and interview candidates using an online platform. Moreover, e-recruitment methods present several advantages, including minimized hiring costs, a broader scope of candidates, and more efficient use of time. After all, online hiring is faster and enables people worldwide to apply.

While online hiring can be as simple as posting a job advert and interviewing via video call, there are ways to optimize the process for a better experience for hiring managers and applicants. Here are some ways to do so:

In this article:

  • 1. List complete requirements and job information
  • 2. Enhance the visibility of the job post
  • 3. Acquire professional assessment when reviewing applicants
  • 4. Simplify the whole application process

1. List complete requirements and job information

Nothing’s more frustrating for an interested applicant than a job posting with incomplete details. This is one of the reasons there’s a job ghosting trend, wherein applicants disappear after sending their resumes or going through the initial hiring steps. They may have been misled due to an incomplete job description, or the company cannot provide their expected salary, as the position’s salary was not included in the post.

To prevent getting “ghosted” by applicants, ensure that job adverts have complete information. This includes the role description and responsibilities, salary, and everything you’ll require from an applicant, such as their resume and licensure (if applicable).

2. Enhance the visibility of the job post

Online hiring doesn’t stop at posting a recruitment ad. After all, no one will see the ad if you don’t boost it or make an effort for people to notice it. This is why one of the proven ways to improve traffic to your website or hiring post is to enhance its visibility.

There are many ways to do this, such as fixing the formatting of your post by adding subheadings and bullet points to make it easier to read. You can also have an accompanying photo that will attract the attention of applicants, such as one with the words “Hiring Now” and a description of the role. These will gain people’s attention, encouraging them to read the entire post and consider sending their applications.

3. Acquire professional assessment when reviewing applicants

After receiving a handful of applications comes the sorting and interviewing procedure. This can be a long process, especially if there are many applicants. Additionally, it can be difficult to ascertain the quality of online applications.

Given this, it’s essential to utilize recruitment solutions to help assess the applicants. This will assist in determining the qualities of each candidate that will suit the company and the role, as well as bring objective and actionable insight regarding each applicant. As a result, it’ll be easier to decide who to hire. When looking for a recruitment solution provider, look at the past companies they’ve worked with and the feedback they received to make sure they’re a good pick.

4. Simplify the whole application process

The final way to optimize the online hiring process—for the applicant and the hiring manager—is by simplifying everything. This can be done in many ways, such as using one platform for the whole application. For instance, if the hiring ad is posted on the company website, candidates should be able to send their applications there and communicate with the hiring manager.

Another is to require candidates to send their files in one format only. For example, their resume, cover letter, and letter of intent can all be in PDF format, preventing multiple file conversions on their end and the hiring manager’s.

Optimizing online hiring makes everything easier for the applicants and the hiring manager, leading to a more efficient process.
